The trade-off of offshore delivery is weather exposure: a strong gregale or northwest blow can suspend operations for a day or more, so a weather margin in the schedule is prudent. Since 1 May 2025 Malta sits inside the Mediterranean SOx ECA, which has lifted demand for 0.10% grades.

Usually not. The standard model is offshore delivery at the OPL anchorage areas, so there are no port dues for a pure bunker call. Alongside delivery inside Marsaxlokk is possible when cargo operations already take you in.
What happens if weather closes the OPL area?
Suppliers typically roll the delivery to the next workable window or offer an alternative position. Building 12–24 hours of margin into the schedule around Malta stems is common practice in winter months.
