Bunker Prices in Gibraltar

Gibraltar is the western gateway bunker hub of the Mediterranean. Deliveries are made by barge at the Gibraltar Bay anchorages, with fast turnarounds tuned to Strait traffic; the neighbouring ports of Algeciras and Ceuta compete for the same stems, which keeps the whole Bay area sharply priced.

Bunkering at Gibraltar

Gibraltar is the western gateway bunker hub of the Mediterranean. Deliveries are made by barge at the Gibraltar Bay anchorages, with fast turnarounds tuned to Strait traffic; the neighbouring ports of Algeciras and Ceuta compete for the same stems, which keeps the whole Bay area sharply priced.

Congestion at peak periods and the local Levanter easterly can occasionally delay barge operations. Since 1 May 2025 the Mediterranean SOx ECA applies from the Strait eastward, so vessels entering the Med from the Atlantic switch to 0.10% fuel here — a common reason to top up LSMGO at Gibraltar.

Frequently asked questions

Why do Atlantic–Med ships favour Gibraltar for LSMGO?

Vessels entering the Mediterranean must comply with the 0.10% ECA limit from the Strait onward (since 1 May 2025). Gibraltar is the last high-volume, competitively priced point to load compliant distillate before the ECA legs begin.

Gibraltar or Algeciras — does it matter?

Both serve the same Bay and prices track each other closely. Availability windows, barge queues and your agent arrangements usually decide it; comparing live quotes from both sides settles the question for a specific stem.
