IMO DCS reporting

The annual fuel oil consumption report, derived from the year you already logged.

IMO DCS asks, once a year, for fuel consumed by grade, distance travelled and hours under way, per ship above 5,000 GT. None of that is new information — it is the year the vessel already recorded, aggregated. The work in most fleets is not the reporting; it is the retrieval.

What it does

  • Annual fuel oil consumption aggregated by grade from the year’s logbook and noon entries
  • Distance travelled and hours under way derived from the same record
  • Per-ship figures with the technical particulars the report requires
  • Gaps are shown as gaps — a missing month is visible rather than smoothed over
  • Runs alongside EU MRV, which asks for overlapping data on a different boundary

Who it is for

Operators of ships of 5,000 GT and above who currently rebuild the annual figure by hand each spring.

The retrieval is the work

A fleet that logs consistently already holds every figure DCS wants. What costs the time is pulling a year of it back out of inboxes, spreadsheets and paper, then reconciling three versions of the same month.

When the year is already structured, the annual aggregate is a read, not a project.

DCS and EU MRV are not the same report

They ask for overlapping data on different boundaries: DCS is per ship per calendar year for ships above 5,000 GT, reported through the flag administration; EU MRV is per voyage into, out of and between EU ports, on a lower tonnage threshold. Keeping one dataset and deriving both is the only way to keep them consistent.

Common questions

Which ships have to report under IMO DCS?

Ships of 5,000 GT and above, reporting fuel oil consumption by grade together with distance travelled and hours under way, for each calendar year.

Can the DCS figures come from noon reports?

Yes, where the noon and logbook record is complete. The report is an aggregation of consumption, distance and time the vessel already logs.

What happens if part of the year is missing?

The gap is shown rather than filled. An estimated figure presented as recorded data is the kind of thing that turns into a finding later.

Free for shipowners

Bunker procurement is free for shipowners — suppliers pay the commission. The compliance layer comes with it.
